Message from JUA President and Congress President

 We sincerely appreciate everyone's generous understanding and support regarding our decision announced on March 23rd to postpone the 108th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Urological Association (July 23 (Thu.) – 26 (Sun.) at Kobe Portopia Hotel, Kobe International Conference Center and Kobe International Exhibition Hall).

 After our decision on the postponement, we had been putting forth our best efforts to progress the preparations toward July. However, the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak has expanded rapidly throughout the world as well as across Japan, resulting in an extremely severe environment for everyone engaged in the medical profession fighting COVID-19, including members and colleagues planning to attend our meeting. Therefore, we judged that it would be extremely difficult to move forward with Annual Meeting preparations at the present time.

 The JUA Board members, together with other concerned parties, discussed various possibilities for the convening of the Annual Meeting, including cancellation, online meeting and further postponement, and we reached the decision to further postpone the meeting to December 22 (Tuesday) to 25 (Friday), 2020, at the same venues, Kobe Portopia Hotel, Kobe International Conference Center and Kobe International Exhibition Hall. Please accept our deepest apologies for the great inconvenience caused due to the further postponement of the meeting.

 We currently plan for the composition of the meeting program in December to be maintained as was prepared for April to the extent possible, and the meeting will be convened at Kobe Portopia Hotel, Kobe International Conference Center and Kobe International Exhibition Hall. At present, we do not anticipate convening an online meeting, however, depending on future developments, an online meeting may become a possibility.

 The outlook for how fast COVID-19 will spread hereafter and when the outbreak might subside continues to remain unclear. We intend to continue to carefully consider future developments and will provide more information in due course regarding presentations and participation in JUA2020 to everyone concerned. Although the new dates come at a busy time of the year, it is our sincere hope that many of you will come to Kobe in December to participate in the Annual Meeting.

 Once again, we deeply apologize for the inconvenience caused due to the further postponement. We would be grateful for your kind understanding and look forward to your continued support for JUA 2020.
