Confirmation of Ethics Review for Abstract Submission to the Annual Meeting of the Japanese Urological Association (JUA)

Medical research is required to comply with all declarations, laws, cabinet orders, ministerial ordinances, guidelines, and notifications related to research ethics. When submitting an abstract to the Annual Meeting of the Japanese Urological Association, prior approval by the ethics committee of your institution is mandatory.

  • *In principle, both interventional and observational studies require the approval of the head of the institution, following review by the Ethics Review Committee, as well as informed consent. However, this does not apply to case reports that are not conducted for research purposes.

Applications for Ethics Review for Abstract Submission to the Annual Meeting of the Japanese Urological Association (JUA)

The Ethics Review Subcommittee has been established under the JUA Ethics Committee. Exclusively for abstract submissions to the annual meeting of the Japanese Urological Association, the subcommittee will conduct ethics reviews as a relief measure for members affiliated with research institutions that do not have an ethics review committee as defined by “Ethical Guidelines for Medical and Biological Research Involving Human Subjects” (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology; Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare; Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry) enacted on March 23, 2021. The subcommittee will review the research that falls under the ethical guidelines and involves no conflict of interest.

However, if the principal investigator (lead researcher) or a co-investigator in a collaborative study is affiliated with an institution that has established an Ethics Review Committee, their research cannot be reviewed by the JUA Ethics Review Subcommittee.
